My Top Summer Skin Essentials

New skin who dis?

Guys, I have been feeling myself lately. My skin has been looking fantastic and clear and glowy (well not right now because of hormonal pimples, curse you mother nature you're cramping my style) all due to these 4 products that I am going to be sharing with you now. I've really been researching and taking the time to learn what works for my skin and what doesn't; what are the right ways to do things so that you get the most use out of your products and I really think that I have gotten the routine down pat. Obviously, as you can see in the pictures below I still have a little texture left on my forehead and chin but my skin has come such a long way!

So keep scrolling to read about these 4 products and to pick up some tips to achieve that summer glow↓

Sun Screen

Well, this one is a no duh.

But you would be surprised how many people neglect to use any form of skin protectant in the warmer months. Sunscreen is not only good for protecting your skin from damaging UV rays but is also important to minimize premature aging. An SPF of 30 is the standard you should buy in any sunscreen but that doesn't necessarily mean the more SPF you have the more protection. Experts have shown that there is hardly a significant difference as you increase the SPF.

The Forever Living Aloe Sunscreen protects the skin from both UVB and UVA rays (UVB rays being sunburn-causing and UVA rays being the skin damaging, premature aging rays) and is infused with pure Aloe Vera Gelly.

Tip N॰1: When buying your sunscreen make sure you look for the words "broad-spectrum" and UVA protection because a lot of sunscreens only protect from UVB rays.

This particular sunscreen is incredibly hydrating and doesn't cause that highly unattractive blue cast. It also doesn't have that overpowering sunscreen smell and is gentle enough to use on children. Foundation applies beautifully on top of this,  this is usually my final step of skin prep before I start my makeup, and leaves the overall look of my skin really moisturized and healthy.

Tip N॰2: Apply your sunscreen in sections with pea sized amounts and really work it into your skin, allowing the product to seep into the skin.

Aloe Vera

This product is the perfect blend of 100% stabilized Aloe Vera Gel, which just simply means that it has organic preservatives to keep it from decaying it quicker and that there was nothing added to the aloe to change it chemically, and glycerin. Aloe vera has always been used as a holistic treatment for burns but in recent years, cosmetic companies have been using aloe vera for it powerful moisturizing capabilities. It's really hydrating without leaving behind a greasy or sticky film on the skin once it dries down, it doesn't clog pores leaving skin feeling softer and looking more radiant.

Tip N°3: A little goes a long way with this stuff! Focus on really working it into the skin in small increments, you don't want to overload yourself with product.

Aloe Vera gel is also great for anti-aging. It's loaded with vitamin C and E which are great for lightening dark spots and signs of aging, which also makes it great for healing and lightening acne scars. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that make it great for acne-prone skin.
This Aloe Vera Gelly by Forever Living is colorless and odorless but it does have a distinct taste that I personally don't like, however, it's perfectly safe to ingest (don't go around eating this stuff though). It's really gentle and can be used around the eyes as well.

Peel-Off Mask

Now, peel-off masks are a bit of a sticky topic among the cosmetic industry. Many experts and dermatologists discourage the use of peel-off masks because the actual peeling off part can cause pores to grow in size, that is why many recommend masks that don't cling to the skin so completely. However, peel-off masks and masks in general, are a great way to pamper yourself at home. I personally like to use the Freeman Renewing Cucumber Mask at least twice a week as a treatment to rejuvenate the skin.

I'm not going to lie, I always feel a tingle when I put this mask on that some may find a little scary, but don't worry this is quite common with this mask if you read the reviews on Ulta's website and actually leaves the skin feeling very clean. I particularly like this mask because it doesn't hurt when I go to peel it off and just overall leaves the skin feeling softer and hydrated.

Tip N°4: If you have red and often inflamed skin purchase masks that have soothing ingredients like Aloe Vera and Gorgonian Extract. For Oily Skin, Clay infused masks are great for drawing out grime and dirt. For those of you with clogged pores, glycolic or sulfur based masks are best to draw out dirt from pores.

This specific method may not be for everyone, especially in the warmer months. However, I've noticed that my skin has a pretty fast turnover rate, which simply means my damaged skin cells get replaced faster than normal, causing layers of dead skin cells fairly quickly and often. If I don't exfoliate almost daily my skin tends to look dull, lackluster and tends to feel extremely rough.

This activated charcoal scrub from Brooklyn Botany is infused with coconut oil and other organic oils that, once seeped into the skin, leave it feeling soft and moisturized. Salts from the Dead Sea make it the perfect exfoliator that has just enough grit so that your skin feels brand new, but not enough that your seriously harming your skin.

Dermatologists don't recommend exfoliating often in the summer if you're going to be spending prolonged time in the sun unless you're like me. But there are many other ways to exfoliate without necessarily using a scrub. Toners are a great alternative and come in many varieties that can be best suited for your skin.

I suggest trying fresh lemon and honey to exfoliate and brighten the skin, as well as trying watermelon mashed with cucumber to hydrate and gently exfoliate (DIY posy maybe?).

Along with these products don't forget that how you take care of yourself on the inside is just as important on the out. Eat healthily, drink tons and tons of water, exercise (or at least pretend to) and don't stress yourself out!

Chill, relax, laugh a little and don't sweat the small stuff!

And that is it for this post! You can find links to all the products mentioned underneath their pictures, and I'll also post some alternatives in the sidebar. Thank you for reading and don't be afraid to comment some of your summer skin essentials down below!
